Philanthropy

Alpha Chi Omega has adopted the support of victims of domestic violence as their national altruistic project. All members, both collegians and alumnae, provide service in their community to local shelters or organizations that aid victims of domestic violence, and promote the awareness of the cause. The emphasis of this project is to offer members’ time and energy to women, children, and organizations in need.

Our chapter, Beta Eta, works closely with a local organization the Women’s Refuge House. Refuge House is a safe house, sheltering woman and children that have been victims of domestic violence. This establishment protects its members with a witness-protection-like program and helps them to start a new life without violence. They also provide counseling for the women and children that seek their help.

As a chapter we hold an annual week long event with a focus on DVA and philanthropy. The week’s events include the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” philanthropy walk and dinner, a DVA Vigil, and the Who’s Your Caddy BBQ, culminating with the annual Charity Golf Tournament, Par-Tee. Par-Tee is a huge hit in which fraternities, sororities, FSU students and teachers, parents and alumnae participate. The event is also sponsored by many businesses in the community. Our joint efforts raise nearly $10,000 for Refuge House. The chapter also donates and participates in many Greek, campus wide, and Tallahassee community philanthropies throughout the year.
